cinnamon hearts hard candy for Valentine's Day
Cinnamon hard candy is 1 of my kids' favorite treats to make. All yous take to practice is boil three ingredients, add coloring and season, and pour it out to cool, and y'all have homemade hard processed (much like a sucker or a Jolly Rancher). We make it every Christmas, but this year we ordered some silicone heart molds to make cinnamon hearts for Valentine'southward Solar day. Today I'g going to show you how piece of cake it is to make hard candy, even if y'all don't have a candy thermometer.
I like having these effectually to pop i in my mouth when I'g looking for a sweet treat. It makes it a footling easier not to eat cookies or ice cream all day long. (Ok, it doesn't actually, but a girl can pretend.)
To brand difficult candy, yous need: sugar, corn syrup, water, coloring, and flavoring. I always use flavored oils, non extracts, when making hard candy. You tin can find cinnamon oil in the baking department of most grocery stores, or you tin can guild it on Amazon here.
You can also employ molds. I used these 1 inch molds, which brand the size yous come across in a higher place, and these tiny eye molds, which make the size you see below. The larger molds are easier to fill, merely they do give the candies a strawberry like texture, which you can see in the photo in a higher place.
If you don't want to order molds, y'all can still brand cinnamon hard processed. Just place a large sheet of aluminum foil down on your counter and then pour the candy out onto it in strips. When it hardens, pause it into bite size pieces.
Here's a footstep-by-step video that shows yous exactly how to make them:
- 1 loving cup Granulated Sugar
- one/2 loving cup Water
- 1/4 loving cup Corn Syrup
- Red Food Coloring
- 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon Oil
-
Place the outset three ingredients in a pocket-size saucepan and stir to combine.
-
Turn on the oestrus to medium high and bring mixture to a eddy.
-
Boil approximately 10 minutes until mixture thickens and reaches the difficult crack phase (310 degrees on a processed thermometer).
-
Remove from heat.
-
Pour in red nutrient coloring and cinnamon oil and whisk rapidly to combine, keeping your face away from the steam.
-
Working quickly, pour the mixture into molds or out on a big sheet of aluminum foil.
-
Allow to cool completely, at least one hour, so remove from molds or interruption into bite size pieces.
-
1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon oil volition give a very mild taste, while ane/2 teaspoon will be hotter.
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: Processed
If you do employ the larger center molds I linked to, make sure to but make full them one/3 or 1/ii of the style full. Otherwise they'll be too big to swallow comfortably.
Happy Valentine's Solar day!
